FAQ

How do I get my veggies?

I live or work in the Maitland area.

Great - you can collect your box weekly from our veggie party at Largs Public School, free of charge. Woohoo. Pickup is between 3pm-6pm on Thursdays.

I live in Newcastle.

Fab - our wonderful delivery driver will bring your box to your door on Wednesday afternoon.

Important!! We deliver your veggies in paper bags (as ecologically mindful as we can be with a disposable product!) and most of the year it is warm in the evenings so if you will not be home then we strongly advise you to leave an esky with ice brick out for your order to be placed lovingly inside.

Below is our approx. delivery zone. If you are outside it and are sad about that, please get in touch.

Which size suits my household?

The size of our boxes are based on feeding you for most lunches and dinners in the week. So if you eat at home every day and eat veggies in every meal, you might want to size up.

While I endeavour for each box to be a similar size, it's inevitable that things fluctuate a little, but the dollar value is always there.

Small shares are designed for one impressive adult veggie eater or two people who want to also order a few additional items weekly, with roughly 6 items in each box equating to $30.

Medium shares are designed for a couple who eats a moderate amount of veg or a small family that supplements with additional items, with roughly 10 items in each box equating to $45.

Large shares are for big families or a few adults who are champion veggie-eaters! This box will contain roughly 10-12 items but with greater quantity - like 2 bags of peas or 2 heads of broccoli instead of one, or a whole cabbage instead of half. This box equates to $60

What can I expect each week?

We aim to craft each box with a good mix of roots, leafy greens, fruiting crops, and herbs with as many favourites as possible whilst also expanding your palate here and there. Expect a glorious varied mix of veg including:

- Scrumptious cool-season brassicas including classic broccoli, purple sprouting broccoli, cauliflower, beautiful fractal romanesco, and gai lan (Chinese broccoli).

- Warm-season fruit crops including zucchinis, button squash, cucumbers, and cobs of sweet corn.

- From November the tomatoes will begin! Punnets of rainbow cherries and large slicing tomatoes galore.

- Soon later, eggplants and capsicums will begin to roll in as the weather truely warms up.

- Bags of sweet and crunchy green beans, then later snow peas and sugar snap peas.

- A variety of cabbages from large green ones to pointy ones to red ones to wombok.

- Crunchy roots with their greens often intact like carrots, beetroot, turnips & radishes.

- Bags of cut greens like rocket, salad mix, English spinach, pea shoots, tatsoi and purple mizuna.

- Some palate-expanders including flavoursome fennel, bitter radicchio, and squat little alien kohlrabi.

- Luscious bunches of kale, chard, bok choy, celery, spring onions & leeks.

- Fragrant herb bundles of parsley, dill, coriander, basil, and some perennial herbs like thyme, rosemary, chives, and sage.

- Guest starring produce from our local friends and farmers like rhubarb, garlic, potatoes, and pumpkins.

What if I hate/can't eat X veggie?

Before you purchase, please message us about it! We can happily accommodate the occasional dietary requirement but if your preferences are too restrictive, this whole subscription thing may not be for you. And that's okay! You're certainly welcome to order exactly what you'd like on a weekly basis.

Modifying your box every week just represents too much extra work and removes the benefit for us. We encourage you to explore your weekly veggie box with curiosity and excitement to try new things!

Plus, if you collect your box from the farm we often have extra bits and pieces that you can swap an item for.

What if I'm going to be away some weeks?

That's okay! We have 3 options:

1. You can either arrange for a loved one to receive and enjoy your box,

2. I can arrange for it to be given away to someone in need, or

3. Login to your membership manager and skip the week BEFORE midnight on the Sunday starting the week (before you are charged on Monday).

That being said, the ethos of a Community Supported Agriculture scheme still stands. By becoming a member of this vegetable club you are integral part of the farm and we rely on this stable income to forecast our expenses and plan production accordingly. So please keep that in mind and only skip a week when you need to - ie. when you're going away and can not find anyone to enjoy your share for you.

If you find yourself wanting to skip a week because you're not getting through the vegetables, then please size down instead. If you're just not enjoying it, then we'd appreciate it if you departed the club to make your spot available to someone else who is better positioned to make the most if it.

How do I pay?

1. Select size and delivery option.

2. Hop over to your cart and check out like any online store. Select 'Pick up' even if you're getting your order by delivery, otherwise you'll be charged twice!

3. You will be charged for the first week of shares immediately, and remaining weeks will be charged on the Monday ahead of the harvest.
